Leland Z. Wiesner, Principal
Mr. Wiesner brings his client's legal and high-technology expertise from his experiences as a private-practice attorney, in-house counsel, and years as an engineer. He counsels and guides Fortune 100 clients as well as early-stage start-ups on Intellectual Property rights, with a special emphasis on patents. Over the years, he has personally prepared and prosecuted over 200 patents on behalf of his clients, covering many areas of technology. His multifaceted background provides him with a solid framework to address his clients' legal concerns while not losing sight of their business goals.
As in-house counsel at Sun Microsystems, Mr. Wiesner focused on patent portfolio development, patent prosecution, managing outside counsel, and client counseling. His expertise covered a wide range of products, from microprocessors, networking, and Java/object-oriented software to working with researchers at Sun Laboratories.
He also spent time in private practice, focusing on Intellectual Property Law at the firms of Finnegan Henderson Farabow Garrett and Dunner and Fish and Richardson, both in Palo Alto, California. In addition to preparing and prosecuting design and utility patents, he has also provided infringement/validity opinions, licensing, and litigation support in patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets in numerous technical areas within the computer, telecommunication, software, and electrical engineering fields.
Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Wiesner worked as a software engineer and later as a systems engineer for IBM.
